Meet the Staff: Valerie Viegas

Valerie Viegas brings her varied life experiences to the role of paralegal at Reed Mawhinney & Link.

Born and raised in Goa, India, she secured her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature before law school where she was awarded her LL.B in Family Law with a special concentration in Portuguese Civil Code. She practiced as an attorney for three years and is admitted to the Bar in the states of Goa and Maharashtra.

After her move to the United States in 1997, she worked as a law clerk at St. John Health System in Detroit, Michigan. Six years later, she moved to WA state where she taught Indian cooking in the Food and Wine division of Whatcom Community College. After her move to Florida in 2008, she taught as substitute teacher in the Polk County School District before going back to her law roots and joining Reed Mawhinney & Link as an estate planning paralegal. She has been with the firm since 2016.

Valerie and her husband, Alex have called Lakeland home for the last 16 years and have raised their children, Katya and Kian here.
“You are only as strong as the community that surrounds you” is something that Valerie believes in very strongly. She works with the community around her to support causes like KidsPack, Meals on Wheels and LVIM which are close to her heart. She enjoys being part of CORE networking’s Wednesday Lakeland group where she chairs the Business Services Power Team.

She recently became a small business owner, having started Granola Girl, which specializes in custom, small batch, healthy granola, jams, and Chex mix.
